In 2001 we already had our 3rd Animagic. Again at the Rhein Mosel Halle in Koblenz this time including the nearby castle as the visitors increased every year.
Here is the information and order form printed in AnimaniA issue 1/2001 (No.39).
Let's look at the convention guide!
Animagic had over 5.000 visitors so they had to do a few improvements to prevent long lines at entry.
This year they had a guest of honour I was really hyped for: Kaoru Yuki the magaka of Angel Sanctuary that I absolutely loved at that time. I even got "my" nickname from that series. And I think that year I did a very half-assed cosplay from it. I even cut my hair super short and dyed it red. I looked more like a random goth kid though.
Translator Jürgen Seeback returned and we had two German Manga artists Sasha Nils Marx and Robert Labs. One of the firt artists that published a comic in maga style.
As the main building got a bit small for the number of conventions guests Animagic expanded with the electorial palace nearby were panels and signign sessions with guests liek Kaoru Yuki were held.
By that time many Cosplayers and guests were chilling outside in the park in front of the convention hall or between palace and convention hall to avoid thr crowds inside and enjoy good wheather. It was also the place to be if you couldn't afford a ticket but still wanted to meet friends and hang out.
In 2001 it was still like heaven to be able to watch so many different anime at Animagic, even stuff that wasn't out in germany. VHS were still very pricey.
The main attraction at the main stage were this year again Tsuki no Senshi, the song duo Miyu, the Cosplay contest (now it was officially called 'cosplay' and the charity auction on sunday.
The cosplay contest saw the birth of Chibi Chibi XXX, three guys in Chibi Chibi costumes who joined the cosplay contest with drumset and all and did an unforgetable performance.
While they rocked hard and were the winner of hearts, the first place went to a Pirotess and Deedoleet pair from Record of Lodoss War.
Even though I didn't play I'll add the page woth the table top games. Back then I wished I was cool enough to play.
Well...it seems in 2001 I was more clever and got an autograph by Kaori Yuki! So I'm a proud owner of a signed artbook. Yay!
