June 15th 2025, Rhein Neckar Zentrum, Viernheim, Germany
Ticket cost 19€ if you bought it in advance
Geekworld is a new convention that was held at Rhein Neckar center in Viernheim near Mannheim: A big shopping center!
The focus of the con was everything geek: Trading Card games, Retrotoys, Cosplay. There was alot Scifi related things but also an artist alley like you see at anime/manga Conventions.
I was surprised at how many retro toy vendors were there. There was tons of Masters of the Universe, Star Wars, Turtles and also more rarer stuff, like one vendor had these NRFB Golden Girl dolls.
Also really cool were these nice arcade cabinets you could play for free. There were 8 of them from Pacman to Mortal Kombat II. Very nice.
Speaking of videogames: There were like six or seven big vendors with retro videogames. Everything really cool to look at but the prices were as you expect from retro stores but you could find enough stuff for a fair price.
A nice touch were all the exhibition pieces like Dioramas of the Dolorian from Back to the Future, KID from Knight Rider and a Spiderman display.
It's been ages since I last watched a cosplay contest. There were nine lovely contestants with great costumes and energy on stage. All costumes were self-made and I liked that the mc asked questions about the costumes, like how much time it took to make the costumes or why the contestant chose the costume.
Another activity I enjoyed more than I thought was the charity auction. I ended up bidding lots and winning three things. On one hand it was nice that you could get stuff for very cheap on the other hand...it was for charity, so I really wish more people had joined the fun. Some stuff sold for very little money.
Since I hadn't cosplayed in ages I wore my Star Trek Voyager uniform and put a wig on. It was intended to look more like Captain Janeway but the wig was way too dark and I don't really give off Captain vibes. Still it was fun to wear a costume again even though it got a bit warm.
I ended up spending more money than intended because of the auction. So here is my loot: I got another small playmobil playset with pirates at the auction to give to my nephew, but before that I got this 80s Playmobil spacestation playset. It looks so cute and retro and is nearly complete.
Quite early I bought Rad Racer on the NES in box for 10€ because its been ages since I last bought a NES game and 10€ in box is a fair price. The Star Trek Deep Space 9 communicator was from the auction.
Got another lucky bag from Harena Art with nice postcards and a notebook inside.
And last but not least I got me some Cosplay prints from Calssara and Aigue Marine, two very lovely and talented Cosplayer.
After a (hopefully) successful first Geekworld, the next Geekworld is already announced: December 2025 in Mannheim.
